Overland Inn is a French electronic trip-hop duo, born in 2006.
Etienne (Guitar / Machines) and Chloë (Voice / Keyboards / Machines) recorded their first album Long Way Home in Portugal in 2010. They went to the UK to record their new tracks and compile them into a second album called Technicolor (2013), before they settled in the Czech Republic and released Between a Dog and a Wolf (2016). Their fourth album, Proxima, will be out in early 2022.
“Proxima” is their first album (mainly) in the French language. They recorded it in Prague. It is about key moments of normal lives. It sounds more electronic than usual, but was actually largely created from wildlife recordings played through granular synthetizers. The actual electronic instruments are analogue and noisy, which makes them sound more organic and alive than the animal-made sounds.
This album is a bit like a continuation of the previous album's ending track « Alpha ». By the way, both « Alpha » and « Proxima » are space missions involving French astronaut and ecologist Thomas Pesquet. Ecology and technology, animal samples and synths, Alpha and Proxima… can they coexist?
