YEARNS’ self titled EP takes shape like landmarks emerging through the haze of dawn. Sparse piano melodies shimmer amidst the restrained streams of noise.
It follows their debut ON//AS (Rusted Satellites, 4ZZZ Radio top 10 release of 2021), and continues their ambient, sonic explorations using circuit-bent Casio keyboards, modular software environments and tape loops.
Yearns is Andrew Foley of An Heirloom and Grids/Units/Planes and Joel Saunders of Spirit Bunny and A Country Practice. Outside of Yearns they have separately appeared on releases on Room 40 and hellosquare Records, collaborating with artists including Erik Griswold (Clocked Out), Andrew Tuttle and Shoeb Ahmad and have had their music featured on ABC TV (The Heights) and played on radio across Australia and abroad.
The EP comes with a stereogram booklet (like ‘magic eye puzzles’ from the 90s) available as a limited edition physical copy (3 double-sided panels, 7 inch size) or digital download. There is a tessellated stereogram image for each track on the EP. Listen to the atmospheric sounds and stare into each abstract pattern until a 3D image surfaces from within the blur.
